April 2021 – Picture Colour “White”

Welcome to this year’s 365 photo today challenge. You can check out this link if you care to join. It is a great group!

It is Picture Colour Week, and this month the colour is ‘white.’ The directive states: “White is the most potent non-colour! It is in this absence of colour that we will turn our cameras toward this week.”

April 11 – Pair:  I had grand hopes to capture some of our local swans, but they were very uncooperative. Usually, I see them everywhere, but today they were very elusive. On to plan “B.” I have a couple of rather cute measuring jugs on my kitchen counter. They have a sense of humour too; the large one is “more or less 4 c,” and the smaller one is “roughly 2 c”. The third, smaller jug says “about 1/2 c”, but it had to be left behind as the prompt is for a pair!

April 12 – Exterior/Macro Monday:  That is a lot to get into one photo! Our old wooden screen door has served us well, but it is ready for replacement. It receives the brunt of the weather. Until then, we will say it has character.

April 13 – Peaceful:  My morning walk was very peaceful; country roads, a little bit of fog, lots of birdsong, and the quiet morning sounds of nearby cows & sheep. I converted this photo to black and white to get the ‘white’ element of the prompt.

April 14 – Oblong:  A bar of soap beside the sink, perfect for today’s prompt. I placed some white baby’s breath on the counter to add some visual interest.

April 15 – Limitless:  “Experiment with monochromatism today. Play with shapes and textures. Pay attention to highlights and shadows. The possibilities are limitless!” Here are a depression glass pitcher and a crystal decanter against a white quilt! The differences in the types of glass quite evident in the photo. Getting detail from the crystal was much harder than I expected. (You learn something new every day!)

April 16 – Flower:  Spring flowers are a little slow to bloom around my area, so I went for a walk in town and found this beautiful bush in someone’s front garden. I don’t know what they are. They look like a forsythia, only in white. Is that a possibility? Regardless, I think they are so pretty.

April 17 – Comfort:  Snuggled up in bed with a good book and a homemade quilt is my ultimate comfort. I made this quilt a few years ago, and it is still my favourite. What you see in this photo is the back of the quilt! I can’t decide if I like the black and white or the colour version better. Which would you choose? (I also include a picture of the front of this quilt. (below) It is called ‘Swoon’ and fits the top of our king-size bed. The fabric collection is called “Charleston,” one of my favourite cities to visit on vacation. I love the detail of Rainbow Row, and have managed to incorporate it into the back, above.)

Next week is Picture More week, and we will be ‘filling the frame.’

Here in Ontario, we enter a more stringent ‘stay-at-home’ lockdown order where venturing out for non-essential purposes is not allowed. Stay tuned!

Thank you for visiting. Continue to stay safe and stay well!

Connie 🙂

  1. What a great week you had with white Connie! I love the little ‘almost’ jugs and your peaceful walk. The oblong picture is so pretty fab idea to include the baby’s breath. I especially like your quilt, it’s amazing both in colour and black and white. Cool to find the maybe forsythias (I have no idea what they are) and great job on the ‘limitless’!
