52 Frames – Second Quarter

I have joined 52 Frames this year, hoping to spark creativity and learn more about the craft!

Here is what the website says:

“52Frames offers a guided weekly photography challenge designed to help you improve your skills. 52Frames has a single mission: to transform you into a truly exceptional photographer. We believe that the recipe for creating awesome photographers is actually pretty simple. We call them the 3 C’s: Consistency, Community and Creativity.”

I have just completed the second quarter of the challenge. I am finding some of the prompts challenging, but in the spirit of learning new skills, I have managed to keep up. Let’s take a look!

Week 14 – Levitation

I can FLY

Mr. Sock Monkey, my loyal sidekick, is my model once again. His favourite story is Peter Pan, and he has always wanted to fly…so he did (with a bit of help from me, of course)!

Week 15 – Details

The Old Fence

I love the moss and lichen growing on the old fence at the back of my yard. I took this photo at sunset, hoping to bring out more of the textures: the moss just coming back after winter, the lichen’s crinkly edges, and the slowly degrading wooden rail.

Week 16 – Under/Over Exposed

Abandoned

I have a fondness for things that are old, forgotten, and dilapidated, and this shed has been one of my favourite subjects for years. The sun has bleached the wood, and the tree nearby is dead. Neither of them may be around for much longer, but they could also surprise us. One detail I particularly appreciate is the dark area under the eaves.

Week 17 – Cramped

Alley

I was trying to beat the rain home and discovered a shortcut, but it ended in a rather cramped back alley. Even the robin on the sidewalk seemed to feel the tight space! Unfortunately, I had to turn back. Although I managed to avoid the worst of the rain, I arrived home a bit soggy.

Week 18 – Negative Space

Feeling Blue?

There is a lot of blue sky accentuating the sunbleached utility pole. A quick snap while on my daily walk, enjoying the spring sunshine!

Week 19 – Luxury

Handbag

Louis Vuitton is the epitome of luxury. I used selective focus to accentuate the iconic LV logo on this classic handbag.

*For six consecutive years (2006–2012), Louis Vuitton was named the world’s most valuable luxury brand. (source: Wikipedia)

Week 20 – Water

Foggy Morning

I arrived at the beach just as the sun broke through the clouds. The fog was moving away, giving the impression of an island in the distance. I also appreciate the hint of reflection of the beacon!

Week 21 – High ISO

Silk Flowers

I arrived at the beach just as the sun broke through the clouds. The fog was moving away, giving the impression of an island in the distance. I also appreciate the hint of reflection of the beacon!

Week 22 – Through the Looking Glass

Stalking Elephants

As we journey through the forest of houseplants today, we encounter the ‘lesser elephant’ on the windowsill. He is so small that I had to use a magnifying glass to get a clear view of him. I believe he was on his way to the local watering hole for a bit of a splash and a quick drink.

Week 23 – Use the Wrong Lens

A Day at the Harbour

I had a difficult time with this prompt, but this is the best of the bunch… the most obvious reason being that I usually use a wide-angle lens in this situation. So here you have it: the harbour on a sunny spring day, captured with my telephoto lens. I eventually captured the boat at the pier, the dock, and, in the distance, the local Yacht Club.

Week 24 – Street Details

Grime

I came across a garage door that needed a thorough cleaning. Layers of dirt and grime cling to its surface, creating a textured, aged appearance that tells a story of neglect. Initially, I captured a wider shot, but I realized that the details of the door’s filth were overshadowed in the broader view. For this week’s challenge, the door’s gritty character stands out perfectly in a closer frame, revealing the imperfections that make it so intriguing.

I love the wider shot, but I felt the details of the door showed better in the cropped version.

Week 25 – Daily Ritual

Washing up!

My day always starts with a light breakfast and coffee, but the next task is to do the dishes; I can’t leave the house with dishes in the sink. Although I have a dishwasher, I prefer to hand-wash the few breakfast dishes that I use. I used my iPad today, as it worked best for an overhead shot of my kitchen sink.

Week 26 – Fluid

Bubbles

We are currently experiencing a heatwave, with temperatures once again reaching around 30°C today. One of the most important things to remember is to stay hydrated. In today’s photo, I am pouring yet another glass of water and having some fun in the process. I love how a slow pour separated the water into interesting fluid-shaped drops. It was a perfect day to enjoy playing with water outside!

There you have it, the second quarter completed without missing a week – Thank you for visiting!
